STREET AWARENESS PROGRAM 30 SEP 2011 6 to 8 PM

Dear friends,

As you know that Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign has already launched nationwide protest to support the world’s longest hunger strike of Irom Sarmila Chanu.

We all believe that the protest of Irom, which is based on non violence and demands the peace and justice should not be neglected.

As a concerned citizen now it is our duty to fight for the right. Let’s raise our voice together.

As a part of this campaign we have planned to organize a Street Awareness Program at 15 to 20 places together at Delhi-NCR. Under this program our volunteers will display the placards and will distribute pamphlets to spread the awareness about Irom Sharmila and to urge them to support the peace and justice. The timings of the program will be 6 to 8pm.

CYCLE RALLY 28 SEP 2011

Dear friends,

Dear Friends,

A meeting of Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign was organised dated 13 September at Coffee House, Canaught Place, New Delhi.

Agenda:
To spread awareness about Irom Sharmila
Mobilization of people towards signature campaign at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi

Main resolutions of this meeting (agreed by all) are:

1. A cycle rally planned on 28 September in Delhi to spread awareness about Irom Sharmila and to mobilize the people for participating in Nationwide Signature Campaign from 02nd OCT. Coordinators: Shadab Bashar, Gufran

2. Street awareness program is planned at 10 to 15 places of Delhi, where two volunteers at each place will display Irom's poster, slogans and will distribute pampahlet. Planned on 30th September from 6 to 8 PM. Place and names of volunteers will be provided later.

Apart from these two programs, other ideas which may be implemented and discussed are:

1. Nukkar Natak (shariq and manisha will contact with performers)

2. Awareness through FM channels and community radio (Faisal, Manish, Shah Alam will contact concerned persons)

3.Participation in similar programs organised by other organisations (Devika, Manisha, Faisal) *Kriti film festival has already allotted a time slot to campaign and this group will organise a talk show there.

We are also looking for more volunteers to start/continue more programs of the campaign.

Approx 15 persons were present. Mr. Rojesh from JPF and Mr. Dhananjay Jha ( A documentry film maker) were also present.

• TO SEND MEMBERS OF NATIONAL WOMEN COMMISSION & NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
• TO SEND SPECIAL TEAM OF DOCTORS TO EXAMINE HER HEALTH

PRESS RELEASE 

As you already know that Save Sharmila Campaign, a joint initiative of civil societies (NAPM, Asha Parivar, Mahila Chetna Kendra, Mission Bhartiyam, Yuva Koshish, Khudai Khidmatgar, Jagriti Mahila Samiti, Sadbhavna Mission, Asian Centre of Social Studies and others) is extending its support to non violent struggle of Irom Sharmila Chanu, a lady of Manipur who is on hunger strike since the Year 2000.

We already had various activities such as Meetings, Candle Light Solidarity Prayer on 25 June at Rajghat and then volunteer meet with Irom Sharmila at Manipur. (News links are attached in word file for these activities).

As per the schedule, a meeting of Save Sharmila Campaign was organized on 09 JULY 2011 at Indian Coffee House, Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi.

Approx 20 members were participated in meeting.

As per the agenda, members evaluated and discussed about the activities performed during last days (Candle light vigil at Rajghat,
Delhi and Meet Sharmila at Imphal, Manipur) and it has been observed that activities performed in last days , helped in spreading awareness among public. These activities get support from all sides and national and local media groups such as Times of India, The Telegraph, The Tribune, E pao, Kanglaonline, Manipur express, The Hindu, Rashtriya Sahara, The Sunday Indian etc published the news regarding Save Sharmila Campaign'' initiatives.
